The
Ghost
Plan a big party, put up the signs, tell everybody "get your costume".
We're going to drink a couple drinks, going to smoke some sweet fumes,
We're going to play you, a couple sweet tunes.
I know almost everyone there, no one's in costume, but I don't care. Then
I see ‘The Ghost’, he's in costume, the sad ghost.
And he's sad, he just doesn't understand. He's in costume and alone, he's
slow, he doesn't know. That things don't always turn out as planned.
The place fills up with smiling faces, there's not a costume in sight. The
ghost grows sadder, sadder not comprehending. I was afraid, because cry,
I thought he might.
And he's sad, he just doesn't understand.
He's in costume and alone, he's slow, he doesn't know. That things don't
always turn out as planned.
And all of the sudden, I couldn't see ‘The Ghost’, he was
gone.
So I ran down the street, and I yelled "Stop!"
"Don't you know you just won first prize for your costume?"
I offered him the most pathetic prize I think I'd ever seen, he offered
me a weak smile in return.
He turned away, and he walked away.
And I swear, that day on Elgin Street, my heart, it cried...
And he's sad, he just doesn't understand.
He's in costume and alone, he's slow, he doesn't know.
That things don't always turn out as planned.
Things don't always turn out as we plan them...
I'm so sorry I disappointed you.
